Why, hello there! Apologies for my 3 month hiatus, but living in Manhattan has been a bit time consuming. Between work, traveling and exploring the city, I just haven't found the time or energy to write an update! Well, this ends today. So the most logical way to kick off the end of this hiatus is to share with you one of my newest obsessions in NYC: Totto Ramen!
Totto Ramen is a tiny ramen joint in Midtown West and is a chain of authentic Japanese food in Manhattan. Sister restaurant, Yakitori Totto, is definitely one of the best yakitori in the area. Totto Ramen is an open kitchen concept with 4-5 Japanese chefs making your ramen right in front of you.
You can choose to add your own traditional Japanese ramen toppings for an extra buck or two, but the amazing broth and hot sauce are the only two reasons why I keep going back for more. It's also probably the reason why so many others wait an hour+ in line to get their hands on a bowl of their ramen. Also, if you're seeking authentic Japanese food, be sure to check out their daily specials posted all over the wall.
Since there's only about 30 seats available in the small restaurant, it definitely requires some wait time.
Would I wait an hour+ in the cold for this? Probably.
Would I wait an hour+ when you can wait 15 minutes? Probably not.
My advice? Go super late at night: 10-11PM late. Or, go 15 minutes before it opens at 5:30PM on Sunday and put yourself on the waiting list before the crowd gets there. Go at 5:30PM and expect to wait at least an hour.
