7×7 | Lers Ros Thai

Day Three of my Seven 7×7 Restaurants in Seven Days series!

I have to admit that when I go out to eat, I have a strong preference towards Asian cuisine. Overall the food feels less heavy for me and what can I say, I can probably eat rice for breakfast, lunch or dinner and be fine with it. Considering the 7×7 list doesn’t have too many Asian restaurants, I was really excited to try Lers Ros Thai for their Duck Larb. Recently, in an article by Refinery 29, Where SF’s Top Chefs Eat Off-The-Clock, Lers Ros Thai was actually mentioned as a top go-to spot!

Appetizer | Chicken Curry Puff

On a random weeknight, a friend and I trekked over to the Tenderlion to check this place out. As an appetizer, we had their Chicken Curry Puff. The crust was fluffy and the curry inside was flavorful. It came with a refreshing cucumber salad and a peanut dipping sauce. Then came along the main event…
As a huge duck fan, I definitely loved their Duck Larb. It was seasoned well and came with lettuce for you to use for lettuce wraps. However, I didn’t feel like it was anything different than other duck larbs I’ve had at other Thai restaurants. I was really hoping they were going to bring something new to the table but it came with the same fish sauce/lime flavoring combo topped off with toasted rice, shallots and cilantro. Eh, been there, tasted that, so moving on…

Ler Ros Thai | 7×7 Duck Larb

Their Chicken Green Curry was nothing to write mom about (or you know, blog about, heh). Bonus points for it being served in a nice dish?
Shelly’s Verdict: As much as I wanted to LOVE Lers Ros Thai, I felt that the restaurant’s overrated. Their serving of Duck Larb was overpriced for their portion size; I’ve had the same dish that tasted just as good with more duck and at a cheaper price point at King of Thai Noodle House in the Inner Richmond. This meal ended up costing a bit over $55 total with 2 glasses of wine which is definitely on the pricey side for a casual dinner, especially for Thai food! The only plus side I saw was the nice decor and their large selection of wine. So, Lers Ros Thai would be nice for date night but if you are looking for casual comfort food, then I suggest looking elsewhere.

I should check out this 7×7.. is it only an SF thing?

Something about Thai restaurants though — I feel like most of the food is VERY similar.. I mean all the stuff we get is like street food right? and hard to beat what I had in bangkok for $1 on the streets! Although there is this Thai restaurant near my apt that is my favorite bc they do a lot of Thai soup noodles, which I don't often see around.. It's DELICIOUS and you MUST go when you move.. I'll treat you as a welcome to NY dinner!
