CLEAN 28, Day 2: Raw Carrot Cake Cookies & BBG Workout

Snack Time!

Instead of talking about breakfast and lunch first today, I have to tell you about this snack. This Go Raw Carrot Cake Cookies is EVERYTHING. Okay, I let my non-CLEAN coworkers try them and they thought “It’s pretty good, if you’re on a cleanse.” So if you’re on a cleanse, these cookies are EVERYTHING!

Obviously, let’s face the facts. This is NOT gonna taste like carrot cake. You can’t really have your cake and eat it too. The Go Raw Carrot Cake Cookies are made with 5 simple ingredients, mixed together raw and then dehydrated for a few days to make perfect little bites. They also makes other flavors like Lemon Cookies and Ginger Snaps which also uses ingredients that are Elimination Diet approved.

They really make the perfect snack/dessert substitute. While this seems to work against my “trying to get rid of my sweet tooth” objective a little bit, better that I’m “cheating” on raw carrot cake cookies and not salted chocolate chip cookies right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Breakfast & Lunch

The day started out with green juice, same as yesterday. I really should start making smoothies but sometimes I’m in such a hurry to leave the apartment that I just rather go and pick up a green juice.

For lunch, I chose to eat a variety of hot/warm foods. I had brown rice with lentils, roasted balsamic mushrooms (recipe from yesterday) and a new favorite, my sesame kelp noodles! The texture of the kelp noodles is very crunchy and not soft like you know regular noodles to be. It’s made from kelp which is a brown seaweed that is high in nutrients.

CLEAN Sesame Kelp Noodles
Soak kelp noodles in water for 2 hours and drain. Mix tahini, liquid amino, chili flakes, agave, garlic, ginger, lime juice, extra virgin olive oil together in a sauce, toss with drained kelp. Top with scallions, cilantro, and sesame seeds.

My First BBG Workout!

Just like yesterday, I DID NOT want to go to the gym after work. It was one of those days where I couldn’t get the negativity out of my head, even though I KNEW I would be better off if I went.
I ended up staying at work for an extra hour just annoyingly asking my friends “I really don’t want to go to the gym… should I go?” Do you ever do that? Ask the obvious, even if you know what the answer is Yes!
Sometimes it just helps having some external voices and motivation to tell you: “Yes Shelly! Go to the gym. You’ll feel better for it!”
Thank you friends who told me to go because I really did feel great while I was there, and afterwards. But, I digress. What I really wanted to tell you about was me trying the BBG workout that I finally got to try.
A few months ago, my friend Jen told me about Kayla Itsines’s Instagram account. I’ve been obsessed ever since. Her account’s full of cute workout outfits, fitness tips and SO many transformation photos from girls who follow her 12-week workout plan called the Bikini Body Guide (BBG).
With so many success stories, I wanted to check it out for myself, but only after doing 12 weeks of weight-lifting with BiteSizedArmy’s program. Anyway, I’ve been slacking a little bit because *insert excuses here*, but I was glad I finally gave it a go.
Compared to BiteSizedArmy’s 12-week program, the BBG workout is a lot less time intensive. It involves doing 30 minute circuits 2-3 times a week, and as the weeks progress, more and more running/cardio. As I was doing four 7-minute circuits of squats, step-ups, burpees & more, I couldn’t help but notice how quickly the time seemed to pass. It looks easy on paper, but this workout felt hard enough, and very impactful. I’ll keep you posted on my progress.

Dinner

Keeping in line with my liquid dinners, tonight I decided to use the last of my CSA squash to make a soup. I roasted the squash with some olive oil in my toaster oven for 45 minutes. Removed the flesh and dumped it into my Vitamix. Added just enough cold chicken broth from the fridge to cover the majority of the squash. Turned it on my soup setting and let it do its job. I love that the Vitamix has enough power to whip air into the soup to make it nice and creamy, while also blending fast enough to heat up the soup. Lifesaver in this cleanse I tell ya.

I topped it off with another of my Instagram finds: FlavorGod spicy seasoning. It is low salt, no preservatives, all freshly made seasonings by the Flavor God himself, I’ve been using it on everything! I didn’t even need to add salt to this soup, this seasoning really helped give it that extra flava.
