Day 2: Finally a Proud Owner of a Vitamix & My First Impressions

This morning is the last time that I’ll ever have to use my $15 Hamilton Beach Personal Blender ever again. I have now made the upgrade to the last blender I will ever need to own, the Vitamix 750. I have long dreamed of having this beauty in my kitchen. I’ve dreamed of making amazing cashew cream cheese and other goodies with it. Stay tuned for recipes as I begin to test the power of the Vitamix.

Breakfast

This morning started out pretty similar to yesterday in that I made the Mango, Avocado & Kale smoothie yet again. However, something about my smoothie this morning didn’t taste spectacular. Either the kale tasted too leafy or it might have been because I added a little aloe vera juice to it, which always adds a funky taste to smoothies.

Lunch

I’m a creature of habit so lunch is pretty similar to yesterday as well. Grilled chicken with mixed greens, dressed with lemon juice. Also had roasted butternut squash and brussels sprout. I had some shitake mushrooms as well as steamed bok choy. Overall this meal tasted a little bland to me, maybe because I didn’t add enough seasoning to the chicken or needed some salt and pepper to my salad. I ended up feeling a bit bummed from lunch.

Snacks

I felt an endless pang of hunger hit me as I was really craving some snacks like chips or something. I ended up eating 2 more bags of seaweed snacks and nature’s dessert: pineapple & honey dew. I kept really wanting more but decided to drink water instead. Work got a bit busy so I forgot all about snacking after that.

Dinner, my first impressions of the Vitamix

Right after work I went to pick up my Vitamix (I was able to get it for 10% off by using a Crate & Barrel coupon! This was the only discount besides the refurbished ones that I was able to find). I cheated and bought some roasted butternut squash from a salad bar so that I can make butternut squash soup.

When I first picked up the box, I was really crazy surprised by how heavy it was. I thought I was going to be able to subway it home, but there was no way I was going to lift this baby up and down so many flights of stairs. Out of the box, it looks like a giant next to my baby personal blender and tiny kitchen. J noted that this looks like a well made kitchen tool and loves how it looks plugged in and lit up ๐Ÿ™‚

So it was time to gear up and make my first Vitamix Concoction. I tossed a quarter of an onion that I microwaved (in retrospect I really should sautรฉed it as the flavors weren’t the same), some organic chicken broth with 1 cup of roasted butternut squash. Put the lid on, and turned on the Hot Soup preset on the blender. I was amazed at how crazy the processing power on this thing was. It was super loud, but about 5 minutes later (I cheated and ended the blending cycle early), but by the end of it, all my cold ingredients in the blender came out to be a steaming hot soup!

Overall the texture was so silky smooth, unlike the butternut squash soup that I made using an immersion blender. The soup I made there was good, but felt a bit gritty. But the Vitamix seriously whipped some extra air and fluff into my soup.

Ultimately, the flavors were a bit weird on the soup as it tasted spicy of either raw-ish onion or Trader Joe’s 21 Seasoning Salute. I couldn’t tell which one it was. I’ll have to keep tweaking this recipe to figure it out. Also, the TJ’s spice mix I later realized has some non-clean things in it such as cayenne pepper, so I’ll have to keep in mind not to use that for the rest of the Clean Program.

Anyway, the Vitamix definitely made dinner that much more delish and enjoyable. Can’t wait to my breakfast smoothie with it tomorrow!

As a part of the DIY supplements for the Clean Cleanse, I am trying the Trader Joe’s Complete Body Cleanse to see if either is better than the 365 Complete Body Cleanse from Whole Foods. With names that are completely the same, my gut intuition tells me that it’s probably even made by the same manufacturer. All the ingredients sound the same, so hopefully it’s as useful this time around.

I started taking the pills yesterday on my first day, and I already notice that I have to go to the restroom more (number 1, not 2). Wonder if it’s because my liver is really detoxing.

The picture above is the amount of pills you have to take every night. It’s a lot of them, but so far it’s been working for me.
Hope you had a good day today and thanks for joining in!
