Day 3: Early Morning Smoothies & Brunch at Pastis

Day 3 of doing the Clean Cleanse, and I’m not sure if it was because of the sun this morning (has been pretty gloomy in NYC), or if it’s because of the cleanse, but this morning I woke up an hour earlier than usual.

Since J was getting ready for work, I got up and made the both of us a smoothie with the Vitamix (yay!). Before when the both of us wanted smoothies, I would have to make a two batches in my tiny blender or share one, but not today!

Breakfast

I bought way too many avocados and really need to use them all, so I made us another Mango, Avocado and Kale smoothie. Put all the usual stuff in it, but wanted to try it with extra flaxseed to try the consistency of it. I decided to also use less almond milk than I usually would and opted to swap it with some water since I knew the Vitamix would blend some fluff into the smoothie. And with a press of a button, my smoothie was whipped into the creamiest version of this smoothie I have ever had.

Lunch

Had a brunch meeting today at Pastis, a super cute French restaurant in the Meatpacking District. Unfortunately for me, the breakfast menu here was a bit tragic. Everything either had eggs, gluten or was smoked salmon. While this would have been fine on a normal day, obviously none of the dishes here were really CLEAN approved. Thank goodness this was only the third day into the cleanse, since my neighbor’s eggs and smoked salmon breakfast dish looked pretty noms. And everyone at the table raved about the home fries.

Instead of feeling sorry for myself, I ordered a chamomile herbal tea and their fruit salad. I had to pick out the strawberries and grapes, but it was a good snack.

Luckily, I was able have lunch later on at work and was a bit too excited about the food I COULD eat. Trout with almonds, roasted chicken, curry lentils, brown rice, avocado, roasted cauliflower and salad greens. I definitely had WAY too much and wasn’t really able to finish it all. I gave up halfway when I started to feel about 80% full. This really showed me I should figure out my portions better.

Workout

True to my goals for 2014, I went to another iLoveKickboxing class today. (My first this year was last Saturday). It’s amazing how a different workout challenges you in a completely different way. As you may know, I’m a bit of a spin-queen in that I’ve only really been going to spin class for the past 3 months and who knows, maybe even longer. Anyway, I feel relatively “fit” from going to spin, but going to kickboxing really showed me that I’m not fit at ALL. This was a tough workout but I enjoyed every minute of it  oh wait, I lied, it was pure torture. ๐Ÿ™‚ But glad I went and looking forward to the day that I can do 1-minute planks again without feeling like dying.

Dinner

Something that’s a bit bad about buying so much produce for the cleanse is the pressure to eat it all. I have a big container of blueberries to use so I opted for a Vanilla Blueberry Protein shake instead of having soup tonight. Used fresh blueberries, vanilla brown rice protein, flaxseed and almond milk. Surprisingly, I’m full despite the workout!

3 days down, 18 more to go! From experience, I know it gets harder past day 7, but thanks for following my progress. See you tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚
