Ever since I’ve lived in the Murray Hill area, I’ve loved coming to Penelope. It’s an easy, consistently good and affordable brunch place that you can always count on. Who doesn’t love a place like that in their neighborhood?
This past Saturday, I decided to put my name down for a party of 5 at around 11am. They quoted me for a 1hr wait, and put us down on the BuzzTable app that they would use to text me when our table was ready. Got buzzed within 35 minutes.
D’oh! not all my friends were there yet since I told them it would be an hour.
We all got there and we were told we would be the next to be seated. Ended finally getting a table at 1pm (far from the 1 hr wait we were initially quoted) which put a damper to the brunch, but the food ended up making up for it.
Now for the brunch menu, you can get a brunch dish and a mimosa or peach bellini for only $15! Not bad for NYC. We ended up ordering the boozy options although you can always get coffee or tea as well – it was light in champagne, heavy in juice, but good enough to be happy and celebratory for a nice day.
Salmon Wrapped Poached Eggs – LOVE
Short Rib Hash with Eggs (This wasn’t a part of the $15 deal, but so delish!)
Sam I Am: Scrambled Eggs w/ Asparagus & Feta Cheese, served with home fries
Nutella French Toast – so addicting!
You honestly can’t go wrong coming to Penelope for brunch. Another popular favorite is their penny egg sandwich which is their croissant sandwich with scrambled eggs, american cheese & pesto.
I’ve also been here for dinner and it’s just as satisfying. Gotta love a good neighborhood joint!
